Mentoring Program

During the course of the last year, Eva took part in mentoring program organized by the University of Innsbruck. The program is aimed at providing means for career development for female researchers and was organized as a peer mentoring program. Last Friday, June 23rd, the closing event took place, where participants of the previous mentoring round and new mentees met and discussed the program.

Foundations of Databases Workshop 2017

The traditional 29th GI-Workshop "Foundations of Databases" (GvDB 2017) takes place in Blankenburg, Germany from May 30th to June, 2nd, 2017 and is co-organised by Günther Specht. We wish all participants a successful workshop :)

Girl's Day 2017

The Girl's Day, an Austrian initiative aiming to let girls get to know technical and scientific jobs and carrer opportunities, took place on April, 27th, 2017. At the Department of Computer Science, the participating girls were introduced to medical simulation for surgery training as one representative of computer science research. Also, the girls were able to chat with current students to get some ideas and impressions about studying computer science. Lastly, Eva offered a first programming tutorial, where the girls implemented a car game using Greenfoot.

Paper at ICMR 2017 accepted

Yeeha, the paper "Improving Context-Aware Music Recommender Systems: Beyond the Pre-filtering Approach" by Martin Pichl, Eva Zangerle and Günther Specht of the DBIS group has been accepted at this year's International Conference on Music Retrieval (ICMR), which is going to take place in Bucharest in June.

Best Paper Committee at BTW 2017

Günther Specht is a member of the best paper award committee of the BTW 2017. BTW has been the leading venue for the German-speaking database community in the last 30 years. 

Summer Term 2017

The new semester is about to start and we wish all students a happy and successful summer term 2017 :)

The poster "Geolocating German on Twitter - Hitches and Glitches of Building and Exploring a Twitter Corpus" by Bettina Larl and Eva Zangerle has been accepted at the 9th International Corpus Linguistics Conference in Birmingham in July. 

HICSS 50th

From January 4th to 7th, Benjamin presented his research on peer reaction analysis of hacked Twitter accounts on the 50th Hawaiian International Conference on System Sciences. Eva co-authored the paper, which was a follow-up of Benjamin's Master Thesis.

DBIS@IEEE ISM 2016

On December the 13th, Martin presented his analysis of more than 18,000 Spotify playlists containing 796.000 tracks at the IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia in Silicon Valley. You can find the paper "Understanding Playlist Creation on Music Streaming Platforms" in our publications list and the analysis tool in our software list.
